Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed On Behalf of Slain Leona's Manager

Summary

The fiancé of a South Side man, who died after being shot during an apparent robbery at Leona's restaurant in Hyde Park last year, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Aegis Properties Corporation and Kimbark Plaza, Inc., stating that the absence of security personnel for the Kimbark Plaza strip mall led to Corey Ebenezer's death.

Tiara Williams, special administrator of Ebenezer's estate, filed the suit on June 12 alleging that the defendants should have known that crime was prone in the area after midnight because of recent incidences, and they should have provided adequate security for employees and patrons of the businesses within the mall, located 1204 E. 53rd St.

[Williams]' suit contends, "It was the duty of the defendants... to exercise and use reasonable care in providing protective measures and security services, including but not limited to security guards and personnel."
