More Water Parks Could Keep Fire Hydrants Closed

"By outfitting neighborhood parks with sprinklers in areas where hydrants are often opened, we could provide a safe place for children to play and cool off during the hot days of summer. We could also dramatically reduce the number of open fire hydrants in neighborhoods that suffer from loss of water pressure," Aid. Edward Burke (14th), the committee's chairman, said.

The proposal, aimed towards "areas of greatest need that feature the highest concentrations of incidents," was sent to the Parks and Recreation committee for discussion.
