Todd Stroger Picks Up Key Endorsement

Summary


Speaking at a West Side hotel and surrounded by several Black clergy, including the Rev. Clay Evans, U.S, Rep. .[Bobby Rush], D=. 1st, announced his support for Stroger, who is in a tight race against Aid. Toni Preckwinkle (4th) , Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Dorothy Brown and Water Reclamation District Commissioner Terrence O'Brien.

"I give my nod to [Todd Stroger]. And he is the only Black running a $3 billion government," Rush said at the news conference. "We do not need to split the Black vote and repeat what occurred in 1989 when too many Black candidates ran for office and allowed a white candidate to win."

"This (endorsement) was a jolt that my campaign needed," Stroger told the Defender. "I am extremely grateful to have the support of Congressman Rush. He has a powerful voice in the community. (And) I know with his help we can win this election."

Toni Preckwinkle (4th) , Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Dorothy Brown and Water Reclamation District Commissioner Terrence O'Brien. All tfiree-were running for mayer but with two Black candidates in me race, it resulted in Daley wiruiing.
