Black Theater Alliance Presents 13th Annual Ira Aldridge Awards, Honoring the Arts

Summary


Black Theater Alliance President Vincent Williams, in his welcoming speech, expressed his appreciation for the wonderful cooperation his executive committee and others rendered in the preparation of the galeant dinner, program, and presentation of the various awards. During his remarks, he informed the members of the theater community and guests of how the organization was established in 1995 and explained its objective to honor the African Americans who have achieved excellence in their respective roles. In closing, President Williams lauded the Principal Speaker Reginald Lawrence, who is the founder and executive producer of MPAACT Theater Company.

When presenting the Life Achievement to [Robert Hooks], Derrick Sanders, founder and artistic director of Congo Square Theatre Company, praised him for his significant achievements as a distinguished actor and producer, his concern for humanity as a political activist and his interpretation of over 100 roles on stage, films and television and establishing the Negro Theatre Company with Douglas Turner Ward.
