"When you look out of that [office] window, you see the city. I just wasn't responsible for a specific district, or area, it was for the entire city. Looking out that window and seeing all the thriving communities, it just left me in awe," [Dana Starks] said.

"I'll miss the sworn officers who are out there everyday providing services to the citizens. I'll miss the civilian members of the department, who, without them this large organization would not operate as well as it does. They are just as important as our sworn officers," he said.

"The phone calls at 2 a.m. The shootings, police-involved shootings, serious accidents, floods, fires...all of that, I'm notified. This is seven days a week, 24 hours a day. I will not miss the pace. It will take me a little bit to wind down from that," Starks said.

Today is First Deputy Superintendent Dana Starks' last day as a sworn officer of the Chicago Police Department, ending a 30-year career in law enforcement.
