Award-winning artist Jonathan Green, who is considered by noted art critics and reviewers as one of the most important painters of the southern experience, is serving as honorary chair of this year's auction, and other members of SSCAC's Board of Directors and Advisory Board include Dr. Margaret Burroughs, Dr. Jan Roberts, Arcila Stahl, Toi Salter, Elaine Moragne, Jennifer Hale, Dr. Billie Wright Adams, Larry Kennon, Sandra Rand, Daniel Parker, Charles and Rosalie Davis, Ertharin Cousin, Frances Minor, Jerry Bell, Alana Singlelton, Douglas Williams, Susan Woodson, Abe Thompson, Michelle Garner, Dr. Robert Starks, Bonnie DeShong, Jacqueline Grimshaw and a number of others.

If I remember accurately, I attended SSCAC's very first auction that was held in Lake Meadows Restaurant, and in later years served as a "celebrity guest auctioneer" along with Jim Tilmon, Max Robinson, Doris Evans Saunders, Russ Ewing and others. Mark your calendars, Blackberrys, cell phones, laptops, etc. for May 19th. We're there!

The 2007 teacher awards will be presented by students enrolled in various activities coordinated by the University of Chicago's Office of Special Programs, directed by Dr. Larry Hawkins, who will preside over the luncheon which begins at 11 a.m. at the university's Quadrangle Club, 1155 E. 57th St. Each awardee will receive a plaque and monetary gift.
