"As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health, I am vitally concerned about the viability of the Medicare program in the long-term," said [Bobby L. Rush]. "One of the concerns I had about the legislation that the Republican leadership passed through the House last year is that it did not substantially address the financial solvency of the Medicare program.

Saying a new Medicare reform bill does not protect seniors' Medicare, [Nancy Pelosi] cited the Social Security and Medicare trustees, who said seniors will be spending more than 80 percent of their Social Security checks just to keep their Medicare by 2070, and Medicare benefits would have to be cut by 48 percent to prepare for the retirement of the baby boomers.
