Put It Out There - Part Nine

Summary

Now back to our story, Samson was given great ability and strength through the power of the Holy Spirit. One day as he and his parents traveled to Timnah to meet a Philistine woman that he would later marry. As he approached Timnah, he came across a lion. Samson killed the lion without the direct knowledge of his parents. Although, his parents disapproved of his marriage, they loved and supported their only son. Once, Samson and his parents arrived, Samson offered the people of Timnah a challenge through a riddle. In Judges 14:12-13, he tells them "If you can give me the answer within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes. If you can't tell me the answer, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes." The men of Timnah threatened Samson's bride with the death and destruction of her family. She eventually coerced him into telling her what the riddle meant. For that, Samson killed thirty Philistines. He removed their clothes and gave them to the men of Timnah. For this act of retaliation, Samson's wife was given to a friend attending the wedding.
