"We are definitely concerned about the closings of Chicago public schools, and with the manner they were told their schools were going to be closed," [Julius Anderson] said. "We are definitely challenging the data that has been put out about schools not improving and test scores being dismal."

"People are always telling us that education is the key to life and to success, but here we are standing and chanting for our school not to close," [Tatiana Coleman] said. "I think that instead of closing schools, we ought to be thinking about building more schools for more kids. And ([Arne Duncan]) should be trying to help us improve, not trying to shut us down."

"We have not been given the real reason why [Collins] is closing. And I can't figure out if Collins closes, what benefit will it be," [Derotha Rogers-Clay] said. "I think that are other ways to do this. Our children and their parents cannot afford the new housing that they are building there. We need some form of integration, and I'm not referring to integration of color."
