"We want to come up with solutions that are first and foremost in the best interests of our children, that will rninimize the movement of students while also offering them the best possible education options," said Arne Duncan, chief executive officer of CPS.

"In reviewing all of this information, we will look for the highest use of our buildings and best use of the taxpayer's money," Duncan said.

On the day when Chicago Public Schools rewarded 25 students for perfect attendance, poor enrollment at 147 Chicago Public Schools - mostly on the South and West sides will give the school system little choice but to close dozens of them within the next five years, CPS officials told the Chicago Board of Education at its monthly board meeting yesterday.
