Summary


Joyner gained notoriety when he accepted simultaneous positions as "morning drive man' at Dallas' KKDA and "afternoon drive man" at Chicago's WGCI-FM. Flying everyday between the two cities, he earned national recognition, the name "Fly Jock," seven million frequent flyer miles, syndication and the largest urban radio audience.

Joyner has received numerous top radio awards including the prestigious Marconi Award: four Billboard magazine Best Urban Contemporary Air Personality awards; Impact magazine's Joe Loris Award: the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights "Hubert Humphrey" Award; the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation "Good Samaritan" Award; and the Urban Radio Legends Award from his peers. He has received an Essence Award and named Impact magazine's Best DJ of the Year so many times that the honor is now known as the Tom Joyner Award. He has been recognized by the Congressional Black Caucus. 100 Black Men, the NAACP. and the Trumpet Awards. He is in the Radio Hall of Fame, the Civil Rights Hall of Fame, and the Broadcasting & Cable Magazine Hall of Fame. The International Radio and Television Society acknowledged his work with black colleges.

[Muhammad Ali] is the recipient of countless awards and honors including a "Lifetime Achievement Award." from Amnesty International, the United Nations "Messenger of Peace;"and "International Ambassador" of Jubilee 2000, a global organization dedicated to relieving debt in developing nations.

Tom Joyner

Known as "The Hardest Working Man in Radio," Tom Joyner is an entertainer - host of the nationally syndicated radio show, Tom Joyner Morning Show, an entrepreneur - founder of REACH Media Ine, and BlackAmericaWeb.com and philanthropist - founder of the Tom Joyner Foundation.

A graduate of Tuskegee (Institute) University, Joyner began his broadcasting career in Montgomery, Alabama, at WRMA-AM and has worked for several radio stations including WLOK-AM in Memphis; KWK-AM in St. Louis; KKDAFM in Dallas; and four different stations in Chicago.
