"As a consumer, I think we have a right to know and reflect accurately the exact amount," [Tom Tunney] said. "My issue is, you guys have a monopoly, and you don't treat customers, the residents and the businesses, fairly," Tunney said to Rod Sierra, Peoples Energy spokesman, and Rick Taglienti, the company's vice president of revenue assurance.

"Peoples [Energy] thinks customers have an unlimited liability to pay whatever they say goes through the meter," [Jim Carey] said. "How can customers be responsible if they don't even know the score?"

"Clearly we don't want to make it difficult for people to pay bills," Sierra said. "That doesn't serve us.
