Walks around the park and an exercise class, mostly attended by seniors, has helped the nearly 200 members of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church on East 77th Street become one of the top three churches vying to win the Defender's Million Pound Challenge on Saturday.
New Covenant's health awareness team leader, Martha Jamison, told the Defender their goal was to "lose more weight than any other church" so they could win the money to help continue building their new church that will sit adjacent to the existing one.The Defender's Million Pound Challenge "Grand Finale" will be held Saturday, July 7 at the South Side YMCA, 6330 S.
