"She was very diplomatic," [Mattie Hunter] said. "She knew how to do everything by the books. She knew how to get very difficult legislation passed. [Lou Jones] knew a lot about coalition politics, and I learned a lot from Lou Jones."

"But Lou was a true friend," [Bobbie L. Steele] continued. "She was a true leader. She was a true fighter for equality in life for all people, but particularly for African American people. We came from the grassroots process, so she was instrumental in helping others. Gone, but never forgotten."

"She was a very a very understanding individual," [Congressman Bobby Rush] said. "But on issues, if you wouldn't bend, she wouldn't bend. There was only one Lou Jones, and there will never be another one like her."

Jones Remembered As a Fighter for the Issues She Believed In

State Rep. Lovana "Lou" Jones (D-26th) is being remembered as a strong advocate for minority businesses and ex-felons during her two decades serving in the state's General Assembly.

Jones died Monday at Mercy Hospital after being hospitalized with various illnesses over the last several weeks. She was 68.
