Curtain Calli - Victory Gardens Theater presents the 40th week of Suzan-Lori Parks' 365 Days/365 Plays, beginning Aug. 17 at Victory Gardens' Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. The national Festival began last November and runs through November 12 with a different Chicagoland theater company taking the reins each week to present seven world premiere or short plays by Parks, a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Half-time ceremonies, from 11 a.m. to noon, will be headlined by this year's official 2007 CAP Games Ambassador, the Chicago Bulls' star, Tyrus Thomas, whose message to young CAP Games participants will focus on the importance of good-sportsmanship and the on going back to school and staying there. Other half-time highlights include the Jesse White Tumblers and a message from the World Harmony Run runners who will invite participants to sing a song about world harmony. Another guest will be 2007 CAP Games sponsor State Senator Mattie Hunter.

Last Minute Reminder! - Morehouse and Spelman Colleges' alumni and family come together this Saturday for their 36th Annual Family Picnic, 1 - 6 p.m., on the grounds of the South Shore Cultural Center, 71st and South Shore Dr. The picnic site is close to the beach area and off to the left of Jazz Unites' JazzFest sound stage. Meet and greet the special invitees: current students and entering freshman classes. Bring folding beach chairs, wear Morehouse and Spelman gear, swim (a lifeguard will be on duty) and enjoy each other and the sounds of smooth jazz.
