Give It a Moment, Then Move On

Summary


The answer is found in Matthew 18:21-22. Jesus Christ is having a conversation with His team of apostles and Peter. It reads, "Then Peter came to him and asked, "Sir, how often should I forgive a brother who sins against me? Seven times? "No!" Jesus replied, "Seventy times seven!" As challenging as this may be we are charged as Christians to forgive.

I would like to share a story about forgiveness to make a point. In fact, it's a story involving forgiveness and promotion. I believe that when we walk victoriously in Jesus Christ, we accept the responsibility to forgive. In fact, we are given the ability to put forgiveness into action and receive His blessings. Let's look at one story. It's found in the book of Acts, Chapters 15 and 16. During your devotional time, please read both chapters. In the interest of this article, I'll paraphrase it for you.

At first glance, you might think what's wrong with that if what she is saying is true. Trust me, I don't think her motives were pure. She was doing it as a mockery rather than a compliment. After hearing her yelling and screaming day after day, Apostle Paul rebuked the evil spirit and her psychic ability ceased immediately. The word soon spread to her employers (she was paid handsomely for what she did). Her employers were quite disturbed because she was their source of income, so they sought after them for what they had done. This resulted in Apostle Paul and Silas being beaten, then thrown into a maximum security prison with their feet placed in shackles. Here's where the forgiveness part comes in.
