Earl Graves Maintains Black Business Legacy

Summary

After a video presentation of ABLE's many success stories, it was time to present awards to Frank Clark, chairman and CEO of ComEd, who received the Corporate Award. Receiving the Friend of ABLE Award was Kaarina Koskenalusta, president & CEO of the Executives' Club of Chicago and it was presented to her by Weddell O'Neal, executive director of ABLE. Other award recipients were: Eugene Morris, president and CEO of E. Morris Communications, who received the ABLE Leadership Award and Black hair care pioneer and fpunder of Soft Sheen Products, Edward G. Gardner, who received the Vanguard Award. The pinnacle of the evening was the keynote address by the Chairman of the Board and chief executive officer of Time Warner Inc., [Richard D. Parsons]. When I asked Hermene Hartman, ABLE's president and publisher/CEO of Hartman Publishing Group what her comments of Parsons, she replayed, "Dick Parsons is one of the nation's premier business minds of this century. His blueprint of corporate vision, fiscal clarity and personal courage has led Time Warner to newer heights in technology and entertainment, said Hertman. After her keynote speech, the chairman took his place in front the attentive audience. He began his speech by thanking ABLE for their past fourteen years of helping the African American business community, assisting them in joining the economic mainstream of Chicago.

This past Friday morning, I popped over to the all-new WVON-1690AM for a first-ever radio exclusive feature, dubbed as "Three phenomenal women of Chicago's media," an A-list gab feast between media queen, Merri Dee, director of Community Relations, WGN-TV; and radio/television personalities, Emilie McKendall and Monique Caradine, who all co-hosted the program, The Inner View, which will broadcast live again on Friday, November 10th from 9 a.m. - 12 noon on 1690AM.

They commented on various topics such as, "U.S. Senator Barack Obama maybe Oprah's pick for America's next president, but is he the right man for the job?" "Is the 30-something generation voting or are they sitting this one out?" "What's going on with women and men over 50 and the dynamics of dating?" and "Are women cheating more than men?"
