"Saddam Hussein is no longer a threat. He's gone. What's happening in Iraq with Hussein gone, and I'm glad he's gone. He was a bad man, but, with Saddam Hussein gone, the society fell apart.

"So, the losers of the process are the poor Palestinians who don't have a good leader and the Israelis who don't have a person at this point that I think can move into peace. And until that happens, terrorism is just going to grow," added [Dick Durbin].

Asked about U.S. Attorney John Ashcroft's response to memos documenting pictures showing U.S. torturing Iraqis housed in the Abu Ghraib prison and Ashcroft's refusal to share them, Durbin said, "He just flat out told me that we were not in the business of defining torture."
