Dianne Reeves' Jazz Vocal Style to Sparkle in 'a Little More Moonlight' in Concert for Corporate Night at Orchestra Hall

Summary

A native of Detroit, but raised in Denver, [Dianne Reeves] was a member of a musical family. Her father was a vocalist, her mother played trumpet, her uncle was a bassist with the Colorado Symphony, and her cousin, George Duke, a keyboardist, composer, and arranger, who eventually became Reeves' producer. It was Clark Terry, who invited her to sing with various groups, and who became a mentor for the young vocalist. Reeves recorded her first album, "Welcome to My Love," in 1982, and now has fourteen releases to her credit. A Blue Note recording artist, she won Grammy Awards in 2000, 2001, and 2003. Her latest CD is last year's "A Little Moonlight."

Reeves says, "Most of the songs are about the moment you're ready to fall in love, and the record features one of my loves, my trio -- up close and personal. I've had great groups over the years, but there is really something special playing with Peter, Reuben and [Greg Hutchinson]. We've worked together for so long that sometimes all it takes is a look to make the music come alive -- the recording captures the magic between us."

The jazz diva will perform the following during the evening: Tchaikovsky's "Overture to Act III of 'Swan Lake' and [Holst]'s "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from "The Planets," songs that have been arranged by Chills including "I Remember [Sarah Vaughan]," "Speak Low," "Lullaby of Birdland," "Send In The Clowns, "Fascinating Rhythm," Embraceable You" and "Obsession." The original composers are: Weill/Nash, Shearing, Sondheim, Gershwin and CAYM, respectively.
