"I don't want to seem like we're opportunists and media hounds, but I'm not about to sit back and watch them take advantage of our people anymore," [Fleming] said. "This is about land; this is about these white people wanting Cabrini-Green back. They are raising war against us. Well, we're going to raise war back with them through the media and other legal recourse that we have. We're not going to sit back and just take this anymore. There will be an action."

"Whatever Mr. Taylor's mother told you I told her is probably true," [Diane Aniolaw] said. "I can't comment to the media, but I did relay what I saw to Mr. Taylor's mother."

"Up to now, I didn't know nothing like this was going on with my son," Taylor said about her son's issues with the police. "But my daughter and my niece told me that the police was threatening my son. They just told me that some (Black) police told them that my son should file a complaint with the (Office of Professional Standards). I was like, 'Why are you just telling me all of this now?'"
